1. PREDICTING ANYTHING


Data Science allows you to predict anything. Literally, anything required that you have the previous data. From weather forecast to whether a team will win the match or not. It's amazing we say that past can define your future. Data Science is actually doing it. If something happens twice or more times consistently, we also make a prediction that it will happen again. Data Science does the same. Just providing the basis for mathematical equations and theorems.

2. RECOGNISING IMAGES 


Recognizing images is one of the most revolutionary things done by data science. It plays a very vital role in curating your social media feed that we will discuss later. One of the most beneficial merits is that it is used in medical industries. It has the power to identify diseases. All the X-rays, MRI scans, and others are put as datasets for healthy and unhealthy classes and give you the prediction of any disease or abnormality. Let's not forget how electric cars like tesla are utilizing it for auto-drive functionality because all it has to do is to read the images the camera is capturing nearby.

3. RECOGNISING SPEECH


Recognizing speech has been a game-changer. It has allowed the technology to be used by more people. In India, a maximum of people are using google translate and speaking to run their smartphones. From calling to finding stuff on google, everything is done by speech. They use WhatsApp only by using voice notes. And personally speaking, this voice recognition provides more human touch in interaction and makes us rely unconditionally on the technology. Being able to build such models is a great accomplishment as it impacts millions. I guess billions.

4. INSTAGRAM FILTERS


Instagram filters are one of the most popular uses of image recognition. Companies have collected lots of images of faces to train different models to identify eyes, noses, cheeks, and other facial features. What the filter does is apply different animations targeting the location of these features. Hence we are able to see sunglasses on our face, eyes getting large, a rainbow from the tongue, etc. No one would have predicted that our profile pic will be used to create such features. But people are enjoying it so it is worth it.

5. SOCIAL MEDIA


There are many algorithms being used on social media. The most primary one is the recommendation system. This system is designed to show you feed on the based of the feed you like, you dislike and what interest you have. Also these also recommends on which people you can follow or make friends with, which page you can follow. Currently while I am writing this blog, it is majorly being used for recommending short videos like Tiktok, Instagram and Youtube. The speciality about this algorithm is that it also favors those who are new to the platform, so this way being viral is not so hard.

 Did you know that you can visualise data that has higher dimensions? We can do it using TSNe. TSNe stands for t - distributed stochastic neighbour embedding What is TSNe? TSNe is a statistical method that is used to visualise high dimensional data by giving each datapoint a location on two or three dimensional map. It is a non linear dimensional reduction technique. How TSNe works? First it constructs a probability distribution over pairs of high dimensional objects. Similar objects are provided high probability and dissimilar objects are provided low probability. TSNe then defines a point on low dimensional map for similar objects. When to use TSNe?
